Federal authentication (FBI apostille)
FBI background check results are federal documents, so their apostille or authentication comes from the U.S. Department of State, not the State of Oregon. This service is for results that will be used in another country.
Our federal authentication courier service is $225, and expedited service adds $140. If you still need your FBI background check, choose the $350 package, which includes your fingerprinting and our federal authentication courier service and costs less than booking both separately.
Why our federal apostilles come back faster
Mailing a federal document to the U.S. Department of State and waiting for it to come back takes five weeks or more. That is the queue most services sit in, because they post the request and wait like everyone else.
We have a team in Washington, D.C. that hand-delivers the request and collects the finished apostille in person. That is what brings our federal turnaround down to 10 to 15 business days instead of five weeks or more.
You do the local part here: fingerprinting, the FBI check, notarization if your document needs it. Our D.C. team handles the federal counter. Nothing is mailed into a queue and nothing sits waiting for a postal round trip.
Oregon apostille
Documents issued or notarized in Oregon, such as powers of attorney, affidavits, diplomas, and court or vital records, are authenticated by the Oregon Secretary of State for use in another country.
Our Oregon apostille courier service is $125 to $195 per document. The notary fee is separate, at $10 per notarial act. If your document is in a language other than English, it needs a certified translation before we can notarize it.
New York and other state documents
New York documents take an extra step: most must be certified by a county clerk before the New York Department of State will issue the apostille. Our New York apostille page explains which documents need it, what New York City birth and death certificates require, and how school records are handled.
What is an apostille?
An apostille confirms that the signature or seal on a public document is genuine, so a foreign government will accept it. Countries that are not part of the Hague Apostille Convention use a similar certificate called an authentication or certification.
Common documents that need an apostille include powers of attorney, affidavits, diplomas and transcripts, birth and marriage certificates, business records, and FBI background check results.
Which office issues your apostille?
Documents issued or notarized in Oregon are authenticated by the Oregon Secretary of State in Salem. Oregon requires the original notarized document or a certified copy with a complete notarial certificate. Photocopies are not accepted.
Documents issued in another state go to that state's Secretary of State. Federal documents, such as FBI Identity History Summary results, are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State.
How our apostille facilitator service works
As a document authentication facilitator, we review your document, notarize signatures when that is required, and complete the request form with the destination country. We then deliver your request by courier to the correct government office, and when the apostille comes back, we return your document to you.
We don't issue apostilles, and we can't guarantee government processing times or that a foreign agency will accept your document.
Independent service disclosure
Oregon Apostille Fingerprinting Notary is a private document authentication facilitator (apostille facilitator) and courier service, not a government agency, and we do not issue apostilles. Apostilles are issued only by the Oregon Secretary of State, the office of the state that issued your document, or the U.S. Department of State for federal documents. You can submit documents to these offices yourself. The Oregon Secretary of State charges $10 per apostille. Our fees are for our courier and preparation service.
Apostille and authentication by country
Requirements depend on the destination country. We publish guides for 36 destinations, including Mexico, Spain, India, the Philippines, Italy, Canada, China, Brazil, and Guatemala, plus countries that need authentication and legalization such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, and Taiwan.
Business and FDA certificates
Companies exporting products or opening entities abroad have their own chain. FDA export certificates are federal and are apostilled only by the U.S. Department of State, while Oregon corporate records go to the Secretary of State. Our corporate and life sciences page covers both.
Getting your documents back
Domestic shipping is $25 per shipment by FedEx or USPS, tracked, anywhere in the United States. You can also collect from any of our three offices at no charge.
International shipping goes by DHL or FedEx and is quoted by destination and weight, tracked door to door. Tell us the destination country when you book and we'll include shipping in your quote.
Living outside the U.S. yourself? See ordering from abroad for how to mail us your document, pay without a U.S. bank account, and get it shipped back to you.
California, Washington and New York
The three states we handle most often have their own pages. California runs 7 to 10 business days at $195 for the first document. Washington is $195 but takes 4 to 5 weeks because of the state's queue. New York is $350 and needs a county clerk certification first.
Not an FBI check? A different federal or state document?
Other federal documents run on the same federal track: naturalization and citizenship certificates, DD-214 military discharge records, IRS letters and tax transcripts, Social Security letters, and FDA and USDA certificates. All of them are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State, never by a state office.
State documents take the other track. Birth, marriage, death, and divorce certificates, court records, diplomas, and anything notarized are authenticated by the state that issued them or where the notary is commissioned. Our apostille page covers that route, and we have separate pages for California, Washington, and New York.
If you are not sure which track your document takes, send us a photo. We will tell you which office it goes to before you pay for anything.
Everything in one place
Fingerprinting, the FBI background check, notarization, witnesses, certified translation, the apostille or authentication request, passport photos, and tracked shipping are all done by our own team, in our own offices.
That matters because these steps have an order. A translation done before the apostille usually has to be redone. A document notarized in the wrong state cannot be apostilled here. When one team handles the chain, those mistakes do not happen, and you make one call instead of coordinating four businesses against one deadline.

Other languages
Each language has its own page with document types and rules.
Translation languages
A document in another language usually needs a certified translation as part of the process.
Country guides
Requirements depend on where your documents are going.
Apostilles from any U.S. state
An apostille comes from the state that issued or notarized your document, not the state you live in. A Texas birth certificate is apostilled in Texas even if you're standing in Beaverton. We courier requests to any of these offices for you.
Oregon documents are $125 to $195. New York is $350 for the first document. Other states are $125 to $195 for the first document, and additional documents are $65 each.
In most states the Secretary of State issues apostilles. Several use a different office, which is a common reason a package is sent to the wrong place and returned.

Questions about apostille courier service
Why is your federal apostille faster than mailing it myself?
Because we do not mail it. Our team in Washington, D.C. hand-delivers the request to the U.S. Department of State and collects the finished apostille in person. Mailing takes five weeks or more; our courier service runs 10 to 15 business days.
Are you a government office?
No. We are a private document authentication facilitator (apostille facilitator) and courier service. Apostilles are issued only by government offices, such as the Oregon Secretary of State and the U.S. Department of State. You can submit documents to those offices yourself, and our fees are for our facilitator and courier service.
What is an apostille facilitator?
A private service that helps you get an apostille or authentication. We check that your document is ready, notarize it if needed, prepare the request, and courier it to the government office that issues the apostille. We don't issue apostilles ourselves.
How much does an FBI apostille cost?
Federal authentication service (FBI apostille) is $225, and expedited service adds $140. If you also need the FBI background check, the $350 package includes both and is the better value.
How much does an Oregon apostille cost?
Our Oregon apostille service fee is $125 to $195 per document. The notary fee is separate, at $10 per notarial act.
How much is a birth certificate or death certificate apostille?
Birth certificate and death certificate apostilles are $125 to $195. You need a certified copy from the vital records office that issued the certificate, not a photocopy.
How much is a power of attorney apostille?
A power of attorney apostille is $125 to $195. The notary fee is separate, at $10 per notarial act.
Can you apostille articles of incorporation?
Yes. Request a quote, and tell us which state issued the articles and the country where they will be used.
How much does a New York apostille cost?
New York apostille service is $350 for the first document and $65 for each additional document.
Can you get an apostille for a document from another state?
Yes. Apostille service for documents from other states is $125 to $195 for the first document and $65 for each additional document. New York documents are $350 for the first document.
Does a document in Spanish or another language need a translation before notarizing?
Yes. If your document isn't in English, it needs a certified translation before we can notarize it. We offer certified translations for $65, or $75 with a notarized certificate.
Can a photocopy be apostilled?
No. Oregon only authenticates original notarized documents or certified copies from the issuing agency. For birth or death certificates, you first need a certified copy from Oregon vital records or the county.
How long does an apostille take?
Processing time is set by the issuing office and depends on how the documents are delivered. Tell us your deadline when you call and we will explain your options.
Can I get an apostille on my FBI background check?
Yes, but FBI results are federal documents, so the apostille comes from the U.S. Department of State, not Oregon. We can fingerprint you for the FBI check and explain the next steps.
Which countries need authentication instead of an apostille?
Countries outside the Hague Apostille Convention, such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait. Thailand also needs legalization until the Convention takes effect there on February 28, 2027. Authentication and embassy legalization courier service is priced by quote.
Can you get an apostille from a state other than Oregon?
Yes. We courier requests to any state. The apostille has to come from the state that issued or notarized your document, so a Texas birth certificate goes to Texas even if you live here. Other states are $125 to $195 for the first document and $65 for each additional one.
Which office issues apostilles in my state?
Usually the Secretary of State, but not always. Alaska, Hawaii, and Utah use the Lieutenant Governor's office, Georgia uses the Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority, Michigan uses the Office of the Great Seal, and New Jersey routes through the Division of Revenue. Our state list shows the right office for each one.
How much is shipping?
Domestic shipping is $25 per shipment by FedEx or USPS, tracked. International shipping goes by DHL or FedEx and is quoted by destination and weight. Collection from any of our offices is free. Call (971) 514-3743.
What about a naturalization certificate, DD-214, or IRS letter?
Those are federal documents, so they follow the same federal track as an FBI check and are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State. Birth, marriage, and divorce certificates are state documents and go to the state that issued them.
