Common reasons for an FBI check
Visas and residency abroad, teaching or working overseas, international adoption, and reviewing your own record.
How fast you get your results
We submit your fingerprints electronically within 30 minutes of your appointment, and results often come back within about 30 minutes of that, so many customers leave with their FBI Identity History Summary the same visit.
The FBI controls processing, so we cannot promise a time for every submission. Some take a few hours and a small number take longer, usually when prints need review. We tell you what we are seeing that day when you arrive.
Channeler or mail?
FBI-approved channelers are private companies authorized by the FBI to submit fingerprints electronically and deliver results. We are not a channeler ourselves. We capture your fingerprints and send your request through our partners, such as PrintScan, which use an FBI-approved channeler. This is usually faster than mailing cards to the FBI.
You can also send your request directly to the FBI. The FBI processes every request, so no one can guarantee a result by a specific date.
Fingerprinting for personal reasons
You can request your own FBI Identity History Summary for personal reasons under an FBI Departmental Order, which is the route used for a personal record review, for immigration or residency abroad, adoption, or simply to see what the FBI holds on you.
A Departmental Order request is yours to make about yourself. It is not for checking someone else, and the summary states that it is provided for personal review rather than for employment or licensing decisions.
Need an apostille?
Many countries require an apostille on FBI results. Because it is a federal document, the apostille comes from the U.S. Department of State. Ask us about next steps when you book.
Employment and licensing checks
If an employer or licensing board gave you specific instructions or an ORI number, follow those instructions. Their check may need to go through a different process than a personal-review request.
Independent service disclosure
Oregon Apostille Fingerprinting Notary is a private fingerprinting service. We are not the FBI, and we are not an FBI-approved channeler. We submit requests through partners, such as PrintScan, that use an FBI-approved channeler. You can also request your Identity History Summary directly from the FBI. Our fees are for fingerprinting and submission service.
Free archive service
We keep your fingerprint record on file. If an agency rejects a card, asks for a second copy, or you need the same prints for another application later, we reprint or resubmit without a new appointment and without charging you again for the capture.
Agency, FBI, and card fees are set by those offices and still apply. Tell us the original appointment name and date when you call.
Not an FBI check? A different federal or state document?
Other federal documents run on the same federal track: naturalization and citizenship certificates, DD-214 military discharge records, IRS letters and tax transcripts, Social Security letters, and FDA and USDA certificates. All of them are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State, never by a state office.
State documents take the other track. Birth, marriage, death, and divorce certificates, court records, diplomas, and anything notarized are authenticated by the state that issued them or where the notary is commissioned. Our apostille page covers that route, and we have separate pages for California, Washington, and New York.
If you are not sure which track your document takes, send us a photo. We will tell you which office it goes to before you pay for anything.
Why our federal apostilles come back faster
Mailing a federal document to the U.S. Department of State and waiting for it to come back takes five weeks or more. That is the queue most services sit in, because they post the request and wait like everyone else.
We have a team in Washington, D.C. that hand-delivers the request and collects the finished apostille in person. That is what brings our federal turnaround down to 10 to 15 business days instead of five weeks or more.
You do the local part here: fingerprinting, the FBI check, notarization if your document needs it. Our D.C. team handles the federal counter. Nothing is mailed into a queue and nothing sits waiting for a postal round trip.
Everything in one place
Fingerprinting, the FBI background check, notarization, witnesses, certified translation, the apostille or authentication request, passport photos, and tracked shipping are all done by our own team, in our own offices.
That matters because these steps have an order. A translation done before the apostille usually has to be redone. A document notarized in the wrong state cannot be apostilled here. When one team handles the chain, those mistakes do not happen, and you make one call instead of coordinating four businesses against one deadline.

Other languages
Each language has its own page with document types and rules.
Translation languages
A document in another language usually needs a certified translation as part of the process.

Questions about FBI background check fingerprinting
Why is your federal apostille faster than mailing it myself?
Because we do not mail it. Our team in Washington, D.C. hand-delivers the request to the U.S. Department of State and collects the finished apostille in person. Mailing takes five weeks or more; our courier service runs 10 to 15 business days.
How fast will I get my FBI results?
Often within about 30 minutes. We submit electronically within 30 minutes of your appointment and results frequently come back the same visit. The FBI controls processing, so some submissions take longer.
How much does an FBI background check cost?
An FBI background check is $135. The package with federal authentication (apostille) is $350, and expedited authentication adds $140. Federal authentication alone is $225. Call (971) 514-3743 to book.
Are you the FBI or an FBI-approved channeler?
No. We are a private fingerprinting service. We take your fingerprints and submit your request through partners, such as PrintScan, that use an FBI-approved channeler. You can also request your Identity History Summary directly from the FBI.
Do you have a package that includes translation?
Yes. The visa document package is $415 and covers fingerprinting, the FBI background check, federal authentication, and one page of certified translation. Additional documents or pages are quoted after we review them.
Where can I get fingerprinted for an FBI background check near Beaverton?
At Oregon Apostille Fingerprinting Notary, 2644 SW 178th Ave, Beaverton, OR 97003, or by mobile appointment in the Portland metro area. We submit requests through partners, such as PrintScan, that use an FBI-approved channeler. Call (971) 514-3743.
What is an FBI-approved channeler?
A private company authorized by the FBI to receive fingerprints, collect fees, send the request electronically to the FBI, and deliver the results to you.
How long does an FBI background check take?
Requests sent electronically through a channeler are usually much faster than mailed cards, but the FBI controls processing time and results can't be guaranteed by a certain date.
What if I need another copy later?
We keep your fingerprint record on file, so reprints and resubmissions do not need a new appointment and we do not charge again for taking your prints. Agency and card fees still apply. Call (971) 514-3743 with the name and date of the original appointment.
Can I get my own FBI record for personal reasons?
Yes. An FBI Departmental Order request lets you obtain your own Identity History Summary for personal review, which is the route most people use for residency abroad, adoption, or checking their own record. We take the prints and submit the request.
What about a naturalization certificate, DD-214, or IRS letter?
Those are federal documents, so they follow the same federal track as an FBI check and are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State. Birth, marriage, and divorce certificates are state documents and go to the state that issued them.
