Estate planning notary and witnesses in Beaverton, Lake Oswego, and Portland

We notarize and witness estate planning documents, including trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, and deeds, and we provide independent witnesses for wills. We come to your home, hospital room, or senior living community across the Portland metro, or you can visit our Beaverton office. We are notaries, not attorneys, so your attorney or your own forms decide what you sign.

Notaries, not attorneys

We are notaries, not attorneys. We can't prepare estate documents or give legal advice, and your attorney or your forms decide what needs to be signed, witnessed, or notarized.

Estate planning documents with a notary stamp: wills, trusts and powers of attorney

Estate planning documents we notarize or witness

Wills, which need witnesses, and revocable living trust documents and trust certifications. Durable powers of attorney, Oregon advance directives, and HIPAA authorizations.

Deeds, including deeds that move a home into a trust and transfer on death deeds, plus affidavits and other estate documents your attorney prepares.

Which documents need a notary, witnesses, or both

Wills: Oregon requires at least two witnesses (ORS 112.235). A notary is not required for a will to be valid, so we provide independent witnesses.

Advance directives: they must be witnessed by at least two adults or notarized (ORS 127.515). We can do either.

Deeds: deeds of Oregon land are signed by the owners and acknowledged before a notary (ORS 93.410). A transfer on death deed must be notarized and recorded with the county before the owner's death, or it has no effect.

Trusts and powers of attorney: your attorney decides which pages need notarizing. Banks and county recorders often require notarized signatures even when a statute doesn't.

Signings at home, in the hospital, or in senior living

We come to homes, hospital rooms, hospice, and senior living communities in Beaverton, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Tigard, Portland, and nearby cities. Check the facility's visitor policy before booking.

Every signer must be alert, able to communicate, and signing willingly, with acceptable ID. If a signer seems confused or pressured, we can't complete the notarization, so talk with the attorney first if there is any question.

Working with your estate planning attorney

Many attorneys send clients to a notary for signings. We follow your attorney's signing instructions, bring the independent witnesses you need, and return or keep the originals the way your attorney directs.

How to plan your signing

Before the appointment, count how many signatures need notarizing and how many witnesses you need, and confirm every signer has a current photo ID. Keep the documents unsigned until we arrive.

We are notaries, not attorneys. We can't write a will or trust, choose forms for you, explain what a document means, or advise you on your estate. For those questions, contact an estate planning attorney.

Signings in Washington State

We are commissioned in both Oregon and Washington, so we can notarize estate documents on either side of the river. Washington's requirements for wills and directives differ from Oregon's, so follow your attorney's instructions or your form's instructions for the state where the document will be used.

Country guides

Requirements depend on where your documents are going.
